Boyd Billings was headed downtown at his usual time, 6:45 am, when, out of the corner of his eye he saw the headline blasting from the RedEye news box.
He did a double-take and quickly snatched a paper, without breaking his stride. He was already a second or two behind and didn't want to miss this train. It would be a whole 7 minutes until the next one...and it was freezing. The windchill had to be 20 below.

BRAND NEW RACE
A novel that's just ahead of our times.
OK folks, I'm raising the stakes. After 20 years of writing non-fiction confronting our nation's perennial race problem, I'm going cold-turkey into what I'm calling "fact-based, person-to-person, real-time, straight, no chaser fiction". In other words, I'm writing without an editor, publisher or any of the gate-keepers associated with big-time publishing. I'm also creating thinly veiled characters and events based on real people and real life. Many of my neighbors and relatives may think they see themselves or others here, but that may be just their imaginations...or mine.
I've tried my best to capture the day-to-day insanity of American life with just enough...uh...umm..
"twisting" to keep me from being sued.
And since I was creating a "brand new" form of writing, I figured I might as well go whole enchilada and invent a new way to publish. As soon as I figure our exactly how it works, you'll be the first to know.
Please stand by.
